CBN GOVERNOR GODWIN EMEFIELE SET TO APPROVE ISLAMIC BANKING

The newly-appointed Central Bank of Nigeria[CBN] Governor,Godwin Emefiele is reportedly favourably disposed towards Islamic Banking,a project which his predecessor and the new Emir of Kano,Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was on the verge of implementing before it sparked howls of protests across the country. It got to a point then when some christian leaders viewed it as a veiled attempt to Islamise Nigeria, and even advocated for the introduction of christianity form of banking.
Although he is a christian, the new CBN Governor is seriously considering the possibility of introducing it into the country's banking system. In this regard,he has appointed one Dr Umar as his Special Assistant on Islamic Banking. Dr Umar is to examine the pros and cons of Islamic Banking.
