NIGERIANS,NOT YET TIME TO CELEBRATE OUR GOVERNORS.

The Nigerian state governors have now emerged. While some such as  Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State are getting reelected for their second term in office, others such as Mallam Nasir El Rufai  of Kaduna State are enjoying their baptism of fire. Many of the governors' supporters are celebrating the emergence of their messiahs.
OOB's candid advice is that we should not celebrate too early. Let's wait and see what these executive governors have to offer to the electorate first.

OLUSOLA OSO PROPOUNDS THE BUHARISM THEORY

THE BUHARISM THEORY has been propounded by Olusola Oso[B.A, M.A.], a blogger and writer on  April 4, 2015.The theory was inspired by a painstaking study of the circumstances leading to the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari as the President-elect of Nigeria, Africa's most populous and most economically-developed country.
THE BUHARISM THEORY states that winning elections to political posts on the big stage[e.g. Governorship and Presidency] requires four basic principles: i]a great deal of zeal, ii.] robust determination, iii] continuous resurfacing, and iv.] the incumbent and leading opponents loss of popularity with the citizens of the particular state or country they lead or desire to lead. The first two principles are self-explanatory. General Buhari evidently has them in wholesale quantities. However, they are not enough to clinch coveted political positions as many politicians, like many people in other professions, characteristically possess them. The last two principles are so crucial that they can make the contestant to win big elections.
Continuous resurfacing implies that a politician who desires to emerge victorious in elections to political offices on the big stage must remain undaunted and never be discouraged by electoral loss he might have recorded in the past. He must learn useful political lessons from thoroughbred politicians like Abraham Lincoln and Muhammadu Buhari who made unsuccessful stabs at coveted political offices before emerging victorious. He must keep on contesting, not taking any break.By so doing,he would begin to register in the minds of the electorate whose resistance against his candidature may eventually be broken. They may begin to wax sentimental, and say,''This man contesting again? Well,he most probably has something great to offer.''
The last  principle of THE BUHARISM THEORY is perhaps the most significant. According to a TIV[a Nigerian tribe] proverb,''the snake or fish that wants to grow bigger must first swallow other snakes or fishes.''  This proverb perfectly captures the political terrain. The competition is ruthless. A state or country can only have one Governor or President or Head of State at a time. For a politician to hold such ultra-competitive posts, he has to 'swallow' other contestants up. This 'swallowing' process only gets simplified if the incumbent Governor or President or Head of State has lost popularity with the electorate due to his actions or inactions. When this happens, the electorate would begin to view the contestant as the messiah who will liberate them from their snowball of problems. This is what perfectly worked for General Buhari. He contested at a time when the outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan's popularity has waned due to growing insecurity, comatose economy, grandscale corruption and massive unemployment in Nigeria. Buhari suddenly turned to a messiah, the proverbial Moses who would lead the over 120 million Nigerians to the promised land.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PRESIDENT BUHARI

AS rightly predicted and endorsed by OOB, after three failed attempts, General Muhammadu Buhari has been elected as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from May 29 when he will be officially sworn in. His surge of popularity in recent months worked for him. President Goodluck Jonathan's inability to curb the Boko Haram insurgency, the pervasive corruption under his administration and the worsening state of economy and youth unemployment were his undoings. As Rousseau said, the will of the masses always prevail eventually.
What really worked for Buhari is his fabled transparency, indifference to wealth and most importantly, the Nigerian people's great desire for a change of leadership. The PDP-led government has steered the ship of the country for 16 uninterrupted years. Nigerians desire a taste of the meal of a new cook, so that they can be able to do a comparative analysis.
So much have been said on President Jonathan's magnanimity in defeat. Does he have choice.? In my own opinion,he was only trying to play safe, and prepare for life after Aso Rock.
Congratulations to the General from OOB. SAI BABA...... SAI BUHARI.
