From the long list of ten entries,Akin Bello's Egbon For Lagos, Othunke Omnibus and Toyin Abiodun's widely-acclaimed play The Trials of Afonja were yesterday announced as the 3 shortlists at a media briefing by the founders of the prestigious Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature,the Lumina Foundation.Globacom is the proud sponsor of this year's edition.
The 3 shortlists emerged from the total 163 entries the panel of judges received from 17 African countries. The judges are from Uganda,Nigeria,Algeria,Mali and South Africa. During the press briefing at Lagos Boat Club,Ikoyi,the Chairman of the Lunina Board of Trustees,Mrs Francesca Emmanuel said the winner will be announced by the judges on July 5 at the Civic Centre,Victoria Island,Lagos in a colourful ceremony which will be graced by the Nobel laureate,Wole Soyinka who incidentally turns 80 years next month. The winner will be $20000 richer.
