The Federal Government of Nigeria has set up a committee to manage the 37.4 billion naira recovered from the Government of Principality of Liechtenstein. The money was looted by the late military Head of State, General Sanni Abacha who stashed away billions of naira while in office.
According to the Coordinating Minister of Economy,Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Eweala in a press statement released by her Special Assistant,Mr Paul Nwabuikwu in Abuja on Thursday,President Goodluck Jonathan would constitute an inter-ministerial committee to identify the most pressing projects the money will be expended on. The recent dropping of the corruption charges levelled against Muhammed Abacha reportedly facilitated the release of the money to Nigeria.
What a good bargain, provided the money is spent prudently and not restashed away.
Most Nigerians do not find this news cheering at all.
ReplyDeletePardoning of Mohammed Abacha is an eloquent testimony of President Jonathan's condoning of corruption.
