NFVCB EXPLAINS WHY HALF OF A YELLOW SUN MAY NEVER BE EXHIBITED IN NIGERIA

The coast is not yet clear for the exhibition of Half of a Yellow Sun, a novel written by the prodigiously talented Nigerian writer,Chimamanda Adichie, and adapted into film by London-based,popular Nigerian writer,Biyi Bandele-Thomas. The National Film and Video Censors Board[NFVCB] has written to the exhibitor of the film on the status.
In a release signed by the Acting Head,Corporate Affairs,NFVCB,Caesar O. Kagho: ''The NFVCB restates its position that the movie is not banned as speculated and that the Board has dutifully exercised due diligence consonant with NFVCB Enabling Law which stipulates that 'a decision on a film shall ensure that such a film is not likely to undermine national security.' '' The Board had asked the exhibitor to expunge/edit some clearly objectionable aspects of the movie. However, the exhibitor never responded.
The $10 million movie is the first African movie to get international release dates in countries like the UK,the U.S.A, Portugal,Australia and New Zealand. It is starring OSCAR nominee and BAFTA award winner,Chiwetel Ejiofor,Onyeka Onwenu,Zach Orji,Genevieve Nnaji and several others. It is produced by the winner of an OSCAR and 3 BAFTAs,Andrea Calderwood and Yewande Sadiku,an investment banker. Biyi Bandele-Thomas is the director.
