For the past 171 days, four Al-Jazeera English journalists have been detained in Egypt on the spurious allegation that they have links with a dreaded Muslim Brotherhood. One of the journalists,El-Shamey took the bull by the horns by going on hunger strike fo the past 137 days.Expectedly,he has lost weight drastically;in fact,almost one-third of his body weight.
In a report I monitored on
Al Jazeera and
CNN this morning, El-Shamey,who has been on solitary confinement, is set to be released any moment from now on medical grounds. The trial of the three other detained journalists has been adjourned.
Talk of taking one's destiny in one's own hand.
