HALF Of A Yellow Sun,a movie adaptation of the award-winning Nigerian novelist,Chimamanda Adichie's novel of same title has been successfully premiered in Europe and America. However, the attempts of the movie producer to premiere the big-budget flick in Lagos and Ibadan, and other parts of Nigeria have been met with a stiff opposition by the Nigerian Movie Censors Board.
The Censors Board had asked the producer to edit out some parts of the movie that could potentially incite a major tribe in Nigeria against other tribes .The Censors Board's position is informed by the wrong signals such overtly political parts could send, especially at a time like this when there is a high level of insecurity of lives and property in Nigeria. The Censors Board also queried why the cast of the movie were predominantly Ibos.
The producer and writer have stoutly refused to edit the movie, claiming that it will water down the strand of the narration.
OOB will keep you posted on how the drama unfolds.
