OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY STUDENTS PROTEST TUITION HIKE

    The students of Obafemi Awolowo University,Ile Ife,Nigeria yesterday caused a traffic gridlock along Ipetumodu expressway by blocking the Ilesha-Ife expressway. The students' protest was triggered by the astronomical increment in their school fees from 17 thousand naira to 100000 naira,in addition to the acceptance levy of 20000 naira.
    The protest which enjoyed the full participation of both undergraduate and post graduate students was led by the Student Union's President, Comrade Isaac Ibikunle.They barricaded the highways with tyres. Accusing fingers were pointed at the school's Vice Chancellor,Professor Bamitale Omole who was accused of insensitivity to the students' welfare.
