CALEB UNIVERSITY SHUT DOWN

One of Nigeria's private Universities, Caleb University has been shut down. The closure of the school was triggered by a riot which erupted in the school. There are conflicting accounts on the reasons for the crisis. According to the initial account, the riot was as a result of religious crisis in the school. The school allegedly has the record of being intolerant to the Islamic religion, and frowning at the Muslim students of the school's observation of prayers.
However, the University's Vice Chancellor,Professor Ayodeji Olukoju and the school's Public Relations Officer,Mr Olusola Emiola have debunked the religious story.  According to the P.R.O,some strange men entered the school premises with some dangerous objects, and claimed to be looking for some students. The students were praying in the mosque at that point. The crisis them erupted. Several valuable property and cars were badly damaged by the students. The resumption date has been fixed for June 2nd.
Coming on the heels of the riot of Bowen University students a few months back, the demonstration of the students of Caleb University is a pointer to the fact that Nigerian private Universities are no longer proof against crises.

  1. NUC should caution Caleb from disallowing students from praying in their religion faith. The truth story is that staff disturbed a muslim male student from praying in his hostel by beating him a taken out his praying mats away from the praying point.
