The issue of what language Jesus Christ of Nazareth spoke in his life time has been of perennial interest not only to bible scholars, but also to christians and even non-christians across the entire globe. The issue was at the front burner of the last month world tour of Pope Francis, the current Head of Catholic Church,in which capacity he is the Bishop of Rome and the absolute Sovereign of the Vatican City State.
The general consensus among bible scholars across the globe is that, being a Jew, Jesus Christ spoke Aramaic language. The last statement he made on the Cross of Calvary before he gave up the ghost was :''Eli,Eli,lama sabachthani?'' which is translated to mean ''My God,my God,why hast thou forsaken me?'' is definitely Aramaic language. Remarkably, the Aramaic language is slipping into extinction as only a small town in Syria presently still speaks the language.
