Y Yesterday, July 5, all roads lead to the ultra-modern Civic Center on Victoria Island, Lagos where Akin Bello, the author of The Egbon of Lagos clinched the 5th edition of the prestigious 2014 Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature. He beat Toyin Abiodun's The Trials of Afonja and Othuke Ominibohs to it, and become $20000 richer in the process. This year's award organized by the Lumina Foundation is sponsored by Globacom Limited.
The colourful,well-attended ceremony was graced by several dignitaries and literary icons. The Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, in whose honour the prize was instituted, while commending the efforts of the writers in the contest, roundly condemned the dastardly act of some military men who allegedly assaulted innocent and defenseless civilians, burning down 6 BRT buses in Lagos yesterday in the process. He called on President Goodluck Jonathan to punish the perpetrators of the act.
Congratulations
