Judge Thozokile Masipa who acquitted the South African paralympian of murder charges brought against him by Gerrie Nel-led prosecutors is presently under heavy police protection amid a barrage of personal attacks over the verdict she gave. She has been widely accused by South Africans of being too lenient on the double-amputee athlete. Officers from the notoriously fierce Tactical Response Team now guard her home 24 hours following the threats on her life.Police officers now reportedly check in on the 66-year-old High Court Judge every hour,and escorts her on her outings.
South Africa's Legal Resources Centre is among the groups that have expressed concern over the threats and verbal attacks on Judge Masipa since her delivery of the verdict. A survey by ROi Africa, a media monitoring firm revealed that nearly 80 percent of social media posts on Judge Masipa have been negative and sarcastic.
